My Personal Revelation of Intimacy

Library

In Genesis Chapter 2, man needed a helpmate who was comparable to him, but none was found. God had a wonderful plan. He "took" or "formed" a woman out of man. Everything God created was taken from the ground except WOMAN. She was created from MAN. God designed the perfect relationship. She was man but "different." She was man but "unique." She would have a God-given ability to get closer to the man more than any other created thing on this earth. What a pleasure! But wait - what a responsibility!!

True intimacy is when woman steps back into man. It is a closeness that only a husband and wife can attain. No other relationship on earth is like man and woman becoming one. The apostle Paul called it a great mystery! I assure you that the enemy (satan) studied the new relationship between man and woman and stood in amazement at the magnitude of this powerful connection that God had uniquely designed. And of course, took the opportunity in Genesis Chapter 3, to deceive the woman into helping him tempt the man. As sin began its journey into their lives, trust would eventually be squeezed out.

The most effective plot that the enemy uses to kill marriage is to kill intimacy. Every marriage that has ever been destroyed was weakened first by a lack of intimacy. Intimacy was never obtained or the couple let circumstances destroy the closeness that they once enjoyed. As Christians, we should be concerned about anything that would keep us from "becoming one" or "remaining one" with our spouse. For many couples, this may mean seeking God intently for help and healing because of wounds and trust issues from their past. It's very difficult to find true intimacy and trust issues in the same marriage. Intimacy can be a defense against many marital problems (especially infidelity) and is where sexuality will be at its purest and freest form.
