Definitions


World Wide Web (WWW, W3, The Web) - a part of the Internet designed to allow easier navigation of the netwrok through the use of graphical user interface and hypertext links between different addresses.

Internet - an electronic communications network that connects smaller computer networks around the world.

Hypertext - a collection of documents which contain cross- references which allow the reader to move easily from one document to another.

HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) - a markup language that is used to create hypertext and hypermedia documents on the WWW incorporating text, sound, video, and hyperlinks.

HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) - the method (protocol) used by computers on the WWW to echange HTML documents.

Web Server - a computer that sends out Web pages in response to HTTP requests from remote browsers.

Web Browser - a program that allows a person to read hypertext.
